Celebrate the Small Things and Fast Five Friday

Celebrate the Small Things is a fun bloghop where we share things, big or small, that are important to us. It can be anything from writing, to family, to organizing, whatever you want to share. CTST host's are: Lexa Cain, Kidbits, and Writing Off the Edge.

Celebrations...

**My son came in 11th place at Regionals for Cross Country and set a personal record. In fact, six of the runners set PR's!!! The team is headed to Semi-State tomorrow. So happy for them!

**Played Phase 10 with my family. We had so much fun-- no TV, no phones. Just us and a deck of cards! LOVED it! We used to do family game night, but with everyone's schedules, we got away from it. We're back at it. Woot!

**My sons had fall break so we had some quality time at the bookstore. I loved seeing all their different interests in reading!

Fast Five Friday is a weekly bloghop created by Cover Girls. Revolving around lists of five, its purpose is to connect with writers, readers, viewers, and bloggers, to share a little about ourselves through lists.

Oct. 21st - Name 5 sci-fi/horror books/movies that scared the crap out of you

The Fourth Kind (movie)
The Seed (book)
Salem's Lot (book and movie)
Jeepers Creepers (movie)
Paranormal Activity (movie)

And don't forget to sign up for Spooktoberfest! We can't wait to read your flash fiction pieces and divvy out some prizes!

Spooktoberfest '14 - Home

It's the 3rd annual Spooktoberfest hosted by Dani and I at Cover Girls. For details of this fun contest, you can go HERE for details.
Next year, I hope Dani and I will go with a 300 -500 word count... Getting my piece down to 300 words took forever! Of course, if I wouldn't have procrastinated in the first place, then it might not have been so difficult. :(
Anyway, thanks to all who participated in Spooktoberfest, and I look forward to reading your stories!

Home
My morning routine consisted of switching off coffeemaker, checking locks on doors, and watching the garage door close. So, why is that door open now?
I park my car and pocket my keys. Inside the garage, I pick up a baseball bat I used in college. Funny. My dad wanted his firstborn son to play major league ball, but my dreams were of the music variety.
I turn the doorknob. It’s unlocked, and even though a chill crawls up my spine, I enter.
My furniture’s rearranged and seated on the sofa is my ex.
“What are you doing here, Lisa?” I sigh and lean the bat against the chair, thankful it’s her and not an intruder.
She stands. “I came to say goodbye.”
“We already did that.” Or at least I did when I broke things off with her last week.
“Oh, Drew.” She tugs on my shirt and kisses my cheek. “Let’s not fight.”
I back away and fall on top of the coffee table that isn’t in its rightful spot.
     Lisa kneels. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, but why’s my furniture—” I’m cut off by the prick of a needle against my skin. Cool liquid pumps through my veins. “What’d you do?”
“It’s a cure for your virus,” she says. “If only you’d continued your meds.”
I try to let out a string of curse words, because I’m not sick, and I’ve never taking medication, but my voice won’t cooperate. My vision blurs, and my eyes grow heavy until they close.
#
Commotion stirs me awake. I’m on a cot, in a small room. Dr. Vex, Lisa’s psychiatrist, stands next to me with a smile.
“What’s going on?” I writhe in the cocoon-like-blanket I’m wrapped in. “Where am I?”
“Home,” the doctor says. “We’ve missed you.”

Thank you for reading, and thanks to the wonderful Spooktoberfest participants!

What are your top ten favorite movies?

Also, today is the reveal of a joint blog with *drum roll* please ... Dani @Entertaining Interests. I mean, who else would it be? *shows a devilish smirk*
Please venture to our joint blog, Cover Girls. We participated in Alex's blogfest over there, too!

It's also Express Yourself time! The question that Danielle and I came up with this week is:

Do you have a lucky charm or lucky ritual?

Well, I have three "lucky" rituals...

  1. I LOVE Lucky Charms... no, not a certain charm. I'm talking about the actual cereal. When I eat it, I make a wish on the last green clover marshmallow in the bowl. LOL Typing this out, I know I sound so stupid! But to each her/his own, right?
  2. When the time on a clock is all the same number, I make a wish. Always. Like if it's 12:12, I think of something in my head and hope it comes true.
  3. Prayer. No it's not "lucky" ... there's no luck involved. But I'm listing it here because it works. Period.
Do you have any lucky charms or rituals? Check out other bloggers who participate in the Express Yourself Meme. If you'd like to join, you only need to sign up once and post your answer sometime that week. And if you miss a week or two, no biggie. Make sure to visit other participants and have fun with it!
