I is for Iris

Iris can pertain to a handful of things.

IRIS - EYE

It rests behind the cornea and is the muscular diaphragm that controls the size of the pupil. It forms the colored portion of the eye. Tiny muscles in the iris allow it to dilate and contract the pupil size. This action regulates the amount of light that enters the eye.

IRIS - FLOWER
It's the state flower of Tennessee. Meanings of this flower include faith, hope, and wisdom.
Its name derives from the Greek word for "rainbow."

                      IRIS - GREEK GODDESS
Greek Goddess Iris, the messenger of the gods and the personification of the rainbow, acted as the link between heaven and earth.

IRIS - SONG BY GOO GOO DOLLS

Lyrics for IRIS

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

  6. Next time you should put up the youtube video for "Iris" so I can listen to it while I'm reading your blog and leaving my comment.

I thought I knew my Greek mythology too, but don't remember reading about Iris. Looks lovely as a statue though.

    1. Okay, Kim. I included a video just for you! It's not the "standard" from the movie. I think this one is better. I'll send a text because I doubt you'll read this comment. LOL :P

  7. I had an Aunt Iris. I know she wasn't named after the song or the eye part. I wonder if it was the flower or the goddess.

  11. Seeing "Iris" I did first think of the Goo Goo dolls tune. Probably because it got a lot of airplay just before my son was to turn 3. I'd left the radio on in my room, and "Iris" was playing. When I returned a moment later he was standing in the middle of the room, facing the radio, and singing, "I just waaaaant you to knoooow whoIyam..." And then he half turned, noticing me, and a shy smile spread across his face. (Ah, mommy nostalgia!)
