T is for Tristran Thorn (spelled "Tristan" in the movie version)

Tristran Thorn (pronounced "Tristan" in the movie version) is a character in Neil Gaiman's novel, Stardust. Tristran comes from half-faerie parentage. He wants to win the love of Victoria, so he goes on a quest to find her a fallen star, which leads him to Yvaine. He falls in love with her even though she's the fallen star.

One of the quotes I adore from Stardust: "She says nothing at all, but simply stares upward into the dark sky and watches, with sad eyes, the slow dance of the infinite stars."

  1. Stardust was a weird on for me as far as the movie go and I'm still on the fence about it. But I'd be interested to see if reading the book changes my mind. Hummmm. Nice quote. (:

  4. I love Stardust! Though I'll admit the movie worked more for me than the book, and usually it's the other way around. Tristan's a great character.

  5. I really dig the name Tristan (am using it for an MC in one of my WIPs), but hadn't heard of Tristran. Doesn't seem like it'd roll too smoothly off the tongue, eh? (Maybe it's my tongue's fault.) ;-)
