Cassie Mae was awesome enough to open the link again. Yeah, she's a rock star. You can check her blog out - Reading, Writing, and Lovin' it!
RULES:
Have one of your characters answer the following questions (to make this work to your benefit, choose a character who is the hardest for you to write :) Max 250 words (Not including the questions—only the answers).
What is your biggest vulnerability? Do others know this or is it a secret?
What do people believe about you that is false?
What would your best friend say is your fatal flaw? Why?
What would the same friend say is your one redeeming quality? Why?
What do you want most? What will you do to get it?
So, even though I'm a day late to this blogfest, my character begged to do this. I couldn't deny her that, now could I?
ME: Everyone, please meet Olive. She's my MC's best friend in my current YA WIP.
OLIVE: *Waves and puts on some lip gloss.*
ME: Uh, Olive. They can't see you.
OLIVE: Oh, my bad. So, you said you have some questions for me?
ME: Yes, just a few. What's your biggest vulnerability? Do others know this or is it a secret?
OLIVE: I worry what others think of me. I wish I was more like my best friend, Kara. She doesn’t care about the opinions of others. But I do. It’s not a secret, but it’s not like I broadcast my insecurities.
ME: What do people believe about you that is false?
OLIVE: That my parents bought a lake cottage. I started the rumor and now people are planning to have parties this summer at a place that doesn’t exist. Talk about a huge backfire.
ME: What would your best friend say is your fatal flaw? Why?
OLIVE: *Removes a nail file from her humungo purse.* Kara thinks I’m always trying to be someone that I’m not. I’ve told her before that I just want our senior year to be kickass, that’s all. So what if I dress different than I did last year? What’s wrong with that? I happen to like looking nice.
ME: What would the same friend say is your one redeeming quality? Why?
OLIVE: Kara would say that, no matter what, she can count on me. We’ve had this connection of sorts, ever since we were little.
ME: What do you want most? What will you do to get it?
OLIVE: I want to be popular. I mean, it’s not like I get picked on or anything. Well, except by Simone, but she’s just mean. I have friends. It’s just, well, I want to be remembered. As for what I’ll do to get it? Ask me in a few weeks. I have some things in mind. It’s going to be epic. *scratches her head* Hopefully, not an epic fail.
ME: Okay, well that scares me. But thanks for taking time to share with us.
OLIVE: No problem. *waves*
How about you guys? Care to share your character who is giving you trouble?
Great idea! Olive sounds pretty developed to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks! She really developed with this blogfest. I was able to bring out who she really is. Like the lie about the lake cottage? I haven't even written that scene yet, but now I will because of this little exercise. :-)
DeleteThanks for stopping by! Love your blog, by the way. :D
Awesome! She's got a total teen voice here and she sounds great!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! :)
Thanks! :D
DeleteAnd what a cool idea for a blogfest! Thanks for hosting it!
Love the line about putting on lip gloss, and then "No one can see you."
ReplyDeleteThat really brought her off the page for me.
Aw, thanks! ^_^
DeleteDitto. She sounds great! <3
ReplyDeleteThx, Lex! I was just at "your place" hehe! Love your blog. I need to stop by more often. :-)
DeleteLove this! I love how you set it up and everything. Very creative on your part. Olive sounds pretty cute to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks! :-D I was having problems "writing" her, but this helped.
DeleteI liked Olive too, and that part about the lake house is going to be great. Oh, what tangled webs we weave... I think she has a good voice.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I hope I can do it justice when it comes time to write that part of it! :-)
DeleteGood job! Olive is a lot like the girls I knew in high school. But I like her more. : ) (New follower)
ReplyDeleteBTW, your header reminds me of home. I live in the PNW, the rainy side, and it's green like that most of the year. Heaven!
Thanks, Emily!
DeleteThat does sound like Heaven! Lucky girl.
Thanks for stopping by! :D
I'm so enjoying reading the interviews in this blog fest, and my character's already been in the 'hot seat'! (She's a muse, so I hope she doesn't hold it against me, or I'm in trouble!)
ReplyDeleteOlive sounds very insecure, and just wants to be liked, I think. Perhaps she needs to learn not to try so hard - her personality came out well in our interview.
Yeah, Olive has some issues that she needs to work through.
DeleteThanks for visiting my blog! :D
Love it! I'm interested to know about her epic plan. She's flawed but I really like her. Fun interview :)
ReplyDeleteaw, thanks! This was a fun blog hop to do!
DeleteJackie--Olive's personality just pops! I love it. You did a fantastic job here :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Angela! ^_^
DeletePoor Olive, she's so focussed on being accepted by the 'in' crowd that it sounds like she might be missing out on the important things in life.
ReplyDeleteThat's great that this blog fest has helped you get to know her better (I saw that in one of the comments). :)
Thanks, Sari!
DeleteI'm so happy to have found this blog fest! :D
Olive definitely seems real, I've known people similar to her.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading my work and stopping by! ^_^
DeleteOh, Olive is a little scary. Good job.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Carol! :)
DeleteI really want to know about her plan!!
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks like you really like Adam Levine :) Do you watch The Voice?
*New Follower!* So nice to *meet* you!
Oh yeah! I LOVE Adam Levine. <3 Yep, I'm a faithful watcher of his show.
DeleteNice to meet you, too! I'm headed to your blog now. :)
Olive is a cool teen character who jumps off the page. You have done a great job developing her. I am a new follower from the bloghop.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melissa! I'll check out your blog, too! :D
DeleteNice job on the questions. Loving the way Olive just pops. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI like how you caught up with this blogfest by combining the two challenges.
ReplyDeleteI did the dialogue part, too. You can check it out here, if you'd like: http://jackiefelger.blogspot.com/2012/02/dialogue-introduction-im-hearing-voices.html
DeleteThanks for stopping by! ^_^
Good heavens! Was that bubble gum bubbles snapping in the back of my mind? I can almost smell the lip gloss. Strawberry cream or something like that. I think I've fallen in love your Princess of Tacky. She's so adorable.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks!!! :)
DeleteHey :) Awesome Blogpost :) I love the picture on your title as well :) I'm a new follower and look forward to your future posts ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteThis is awesome! She sounds like someone a lot of teenagers can relate to! Shoot- probably every teenager. That's just an age in life that you want to fit in and be accepted. So cool! Fab job on the interview! I am a new follower :D
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm heading to your blog! :)
