LUNAR LOVIN' HOP
Hosted by the lovely Mina Lobo, from Some Dark Romantic.
Instructions: take a picture of the moon on Jan. 27, then post the pic on the 28th.
It rained last night so the clouds covered the moon. But I have two pics taken two hours apart. No moon, of course, but I thought they were pretty cool pics so I thought I'd share anyway. The second one shows raindrops, but to me they look like stars.
RE-INTRODUCE YOURSELF
Elise Fallson, Carolyn Brown, Stephen Tremp, and Mark Koopmans are the hosts of this blog hop.
Share something about yourself to your bloggers. It can be about anything you want to share.
Hello! I'm Jackie, Jack, or Jax. I'm married to Leo, and we have 4 boys - 15, 12, 10, and 6. They keep us busy with school and sports, but I wouldn't change a thing.
Fun Facts! I figured I’d throw out some random things that most don't know about me.
*Writing... here and there in junior high, but heavily in high school, mostly dark and sad poetry as well as
short stories. While some of my fellow classmates made fun of me for my topic choices, my
creative writing teacher encouraged me and told me I had a gift. Of course,
being a teen, I didn’t listen and put my writing on the back burner for awhile.
*Musical instruments... alto saxophone and piano. I was in varsity band and marching
band. If I were to pick up the saxophone now, I don’t think I could play it, but the
piano? It’s like riding a bike. My parents still have our family piano at
their place, and playing it still calms my nerves, even though I'm not very good.
*Singing... I sang in the church choir and participated in concerts and musicals. I
grew up on stage which is funny considering I’m still extremely shy.
Before every performance, I’d either break out in hives or get dry heaves. LOL
Oh, dear, my poor friends. They talked me through it every time to which I was
extremely grateful.
Hmm... I do the hives/dry heave thing when it comes to my writing, too.
Hmm... I do the hives/dry heave thing when it comes to my writing, too.
*Bible Bowl. Every year, we’d study a book from the Bible until it was ingrained in
us. Then, we’d travel and compete against other teams. I met some very cool
people on this journey and made some awesome memories.
EXPRESS YOURSELF
The Express Yourself question for this week from Dani and I is....
What movies do you watch over and over that you can practically quote them word for word?
Tombstone
Finding Nemo
The Notebook
The Ref
Long Gone
Your rain turned out better than my sleet. It was actually landing on my phone. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteYou have never played the piano in front of me... well now you have to!
Oh, Finding Nemo! Duh! I forgot about that one! Nice list.
See? We learn new stuff about each other even though we've known one another for years. :)
DeleteBut since you do know me, then you know, the chance of me playing the piano in front of you is slim to none. I couldn't handle it. I'd throw up for sure.
Bummer about the weather. But you know what? I love your rain drops picture, they really do look like stars, and look you even got a pic of Mars in the lower left corner. (:
ReplyDeleteGreat re-meeting you too! I wish I had learned to play a musical instrument well when I was younger. I did play the piano for a few years but didn't really like it and was terrible at it. Then, I tired the viola for about a year, that was a disaster. I think my parents were happy when I decided it wasn't for me, lol!
Thanks, Elise! I'm not a good piano player by any means. I know enough to get by. :)
DeleteHey Jax. You had a busy Monday. Great stuff. Thanks for introducing me to the Express Yourself Meme. What a fun idea. Nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteAww. Thanks for stopping by, Sydney! Nice to meet you, too!
DeleteTried to photograph the moon last night, no luck. Had probs with the linky today, the second one links to the correct entry
ReplyDeleteDani and I thought it'd be nice to just sign up one time instead of every week. Thanks for participating.
DeleteIt was rainy here too. We have the Bible Bee, although I've never been a participant. For some strange reason I watch Shawshank Redemption every time it's one. I guess I like seeing justice done.
ReplyDeleteShawshank is another one! Great choice!
DeleteBible bowl sounds like fun. My four children and two stepsons are grown now but I often wonder how I survived the hectic days of sports and school activities.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun! :D Thanks for visiting, Susan!
DeleteHi Jax. Great to re-meet/meet you... not sure which one...?
ReplyDeleteAh, a fellow pianist/singer... I just commented on the blog of a singer/songwriter and stated that it will be interesting to see how many fellow writers are also musicians, and you're the third...
Alto sax? Sounds funky, especially a female saxophonist... you should resurrect your sax-playing skills...
The Express Yourself Meme sounds awesome... *sighs*... so many bloghops, so little time...
I wonder if my parents kept my alto sax... I'll have to ask them!
DeleteYou are quite the musical talent! Nice to learn more about you, Jax.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was a musical talent. hehe. Thanks for stopping by, Nicole!
DeleteIt's nice to have more than one form of art to express yourself. That way when the evil forces attack your self confidence on one, you can lean on the other for release. It's nice to learn more about you. Your webpage is beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteSo true about the self confidence. I never looked at it that way before. Thanks for visiting, A.J.
DeleteHi, Jackie,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! I love the fact that you are multi artistic. SO many writers have other talents. I think that is so awesome. Like you, I sing, but I also draw, paint, design, and craft just about anything. Creative people must create...
I never looked at it that way- writers having other talents, but so true. Thanks for stopping by, Michael!
DeleteLove the rain photo! : ]
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting, Kas!
DeleteNice to meet you. I was in marching band for years, though I was in the color guard. Good memories.
ReplyDeleteYay for marching band! Yes, good memories!
DeleteNice to meetcha! Love that second moonless moon picture. Looks like there's a shooting star or comet in it. I don't know how long you played the sax, but I'll bet you'd remember more than you think you do. With a name like Jax... ya GOTTA play the sax! (It's practically predestined!)
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, too!
DeleteI played the alto sax from 6th grade through senior year.
Love your lingo Jax-Sax. So cute, Susan!
Hey, Jackie!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a 'Bible Bowl', but I'd love to participate in one. Sounds like you're busy, but enjoying life. It's great meeting you. I look forward to learning more about you and your writing. :)
Hello, Celeste! Nice to meet you, too. Thanks for visiting. :)
Delete4 boys? Hats off ;) We also have the piano and singing in common. The Bible Bowl sounds like a lot of fun too. Fun to re-meet you!
ReplyDeleteAwesome to the piano/singing in common! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThose raindrops do look like stars, all glittery in the night sky.
ReplyDeleteI used to play piano many years ago, but it's been a long time since I put my fingers on the keys. Will have to remedy that. :)
Nice to meet you, Jackie.
Thanks for stopping by, Kern!
DeleteNice to meet you. I'm impressed by the fact that you play an instrument. Never learned how to play anything. Sounds like you had a lot of fun in your teens.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, too!
DeleteI also find playing piano extremely soothing. I don't know why I don't do it more often. Maybe partly because it's depressing to feel my fingers stumble over the keys where they used to dance.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wish I could play better. It's all about practice, and I just don't know where to squeeze that in. :(
DeleteI love the movie The Ref! So many people have never seen that one, but we watch it every year at Christmas. :)I've seen it so many times I can quote parts but it's always fun!! I did the sad poetry bit when I was a teen too!
ReplyDeleteIsn't The Ref the best? My hubby and I quote stuff from that movie all the time.
DeleteAnd yay for sad poetry! :) It made us who we are today.
Nice sky shots. I'm sorry I missed that hop. Taking moon photos is one of my hobbies.
ReplyDeleteI used to be in band, too. I played flute.
Thanks for visiting! I wanted to play the flute at first, but then the music store showed me the alto sax and, well, that was that. :D
DeleteSounds like we have a bit in common. I also used to perform on stage in school (not singing, I think I would have been pelted with tomatoes!) I fancied myself as an actor but was also very shy, I remember the dry heaves all too well!
ReplyDeleteMusic is a great outlet to have. I found out it wasn't for me (see my own post for the deets), but my 15-year-old stepdaughter is a maestro on the piano - a natural talent.
yeah, singing and acting for the plays and musicals was fun stuff, but nerve jarring, too!
DeleteThat's awesome about your stepdaughter being a natural on the piano!
I think it's wonderful that you have a big family! Playing the piano calms me too, although I haven't had that much time to do that lately because the only time I'd have to play during the day would be while my child is napping, and I wouldn't want to wake him up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Thanks, Cynthia! Nice to catch up again!
DeleteYou're a multi-talented woman. Love your pictures! Thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't feel multi-talented. LOL But thanks!
DeleteAnd thank you for visiting!
Wow, 4 boys?!? I have the (almost) 12-year-old and 6-year-old and we're at sports stuff enough! (and my 12-year-old plays the alto sax). Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteerica
Yeah, many days end up being adventures and lots of patience is a must! :D
DeleteNice to meet you, too!
Bummer about the clouds, Dude. Next time I'll make the hop last for the whole week the moon's full, that way folks'll have a number of days to try to get their pics. Meanwhile, I dig that raindroppy/stars pic! So glad you hopped with me. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for throwing a fun blog hop!
DeleteYour pictures are cool! No moon, but still interesting all the same.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
DeleteI'm a little jealous. I wish I were musical, but alas, it simply wasn't in the cards. Nice meeting you :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Jess. Nice to meet you, too!
DeleteHi there! Nice to meet you. I was the same in high school but never wrote poetry. Had teachers tell me the same and I did the same thing, blew it off. I played trumpet in band and sang alto in the school choir. I'm participating in this fest, here's my link! www.caledonialass.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLooks like we have a lot in common. Thanks for visiting, Mel!
Deletebible bowl...wow, sounds very creative...but would you like to play a piano duet in the meantime? :D
ReplyDeleteA piano duet would be nice, as long as you didn't laugh at my key skills, or lack there of! :D
DeleteThe night sky can be mesmerizing, even withour the moon. Oh, pretty rain drops. I like to hear them patter on the roof.
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie! Oh my, I don't get by here as often as I'd like, so I'm glad you participated in both these blog hops. Jax and Leo, sounds like an epic love story. Hope you don't mind if I save the names for future characters? I love the sax, and piano music is actually my favorite to relax to. I hope you post a sample of your playing sometime. And Bible Bowl, what an intriguing concept.
......dhole
I think that's a cool idea, and I'm honored that you'd consider using the names of me and my hubby... Jax and Leo. :D Thanks for stopping by, Donna!
DeleteLove those pics of yours!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have had a very full life creatively :)
Aww. Thanks for visiting, Trisha! :D
DeleteAlthough I love music, I do not play any instruments, but my kids do - flute, guitar and piano.
ReplyDeleteMy 12 yr old and I received guitars for Christmas. He really wants to learn to play, and I plan on helping him. :)
DeleteI played the clarinet in jr/sr high. Sometimes I wished I played the sax. Many more times, as an adult, I wished I hadn't given up piano for the clarinet. Seriously, how many band students play their instrument after high school? Not many. But a piano? Got one and wish I was much better.
ReplyDeleteRight? I don't know any that continue to play their instruments after high school either. Sort of sad.
Deleteawesome!
ReplyDeleteJax plays the sax and sings bible facts!
i love that you sing & study the bible, just like me! (and i have 3 boys =)
LOL You crack me up, Tara. Very cute with the rhyme!
DeleteI love the rain picture, it really does look like stars :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laura!
DeleteBible Bowl? Now that sounds challenging! (And Tara's rhyme there is hilarious.) I was a band geek as well. Must admit, guitar is much more fun.
ReplyDeleteTara's funny! :D
DeleteYay for band geeks!!!
You are a busy mom with four kids. And a creative one, too, even if you get hives. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. Thank you! :)
DeleteNice to meet you. I'm so glad you're still playing the piano!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, too. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThat rain picture is awesome. I was a band geek for a couple years.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ciara. I love meeting other band geek members! So cool!
