Celebrate the Small Things is a fun bloghop where we share things, big or small, that are important to us. It can be anything from writing, to family, to organizing, whatever you want to share. CTST host's are: Lexa Cain, Kidbits, and Writing Off the Edge.
Celebrations...
**My middle schooler made the basketball team! So happy for him!
**I finally finished my Spooktoberfest piece. This month has been super busy with the flower biz, and to top it off, I haven't been feeling the best the past couple days. :(
The Spooktoberfest Flash Fiction piece can't be longer than 400 words, and the MANDATORY 5 words or any version of it, must be used: Black, Machete, Magic, Skull, and Tombstone.
Bad Proposal
"Marry me," Beau whispered as he removed a diamond from the tiny, black box.
Genevieve glanced at the ring, and then back at him like he cursed her out. "I can't marry you." She turned away. "We haven't even been dating that long."
Not the reaction Beau was going for, but he chalked it up to Gen being nervous. He'd thought Forest Park would be the perfect place to ask his girl to marry him. After all, it's where they met a few months ago.
"There's something between us," Beau said. "Call it magic, fate, whatever, but it's real. I feel it." He grabbed Gen’s arm and spun her around. "I know you feel something for me, too."
"I do feel something for you, but I wouldn't call it love." Gen held up a machete with a skull imprinted on the handle. "And when I asked you to meet me here, a marriage proposal wasn't what I had in mind."
The weapon came down on Beau’s upper arm, slicing his skin. Blood oozed from the wound, and he dropped to the ground, the pain unbearable. He tried to sit up, but it was useless. His arm felt like it was asleep from the blood loss.
Beau asked Gen over and over again why she'd cut him, but she ignored him. He watched as she removed a pile of leaves, revealing a tombstone. Etched on the gray granite was the name Lucy Decker, Beau’s ex-girlfriend. He’d broken off their relationship nearly a year ago, but it was surreal to see her grave.
"Last I heard from Lucy was in a letter, saying she was going away," he said.
"She did go away," Gen hissed. "My beloved sister took her own life."
"Sister?" Beau stared at his girlfriend. Gen’s blonde curls and pale skin were nothing like Lucy’s red, straight hair and olive skin tone. "I see no resemblance," he said. "And your last name is Bennet, not Decker."
"We were half-sisters," Gen said through a chilling laugh. "And thanks to you, my sweet sister and I will be reconciled once more." She lifted the machete as she eyed Beau’s chest. "I just need a little more of your blood to make the spell complete."
