It's time for the Express Yourself Meme. Dani and I would like to know...
Who's your favorite couple? They can be historical, fictional, or even present day.
In no particular order:
Nora and Patch from Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush Hush series
Allie and Noah from Nicholas Sparks' novel, The Notebook
Yvaine and Tristran (Tristan in the movie) from Neil Gaiman's novel, Stardust
Rose and Jack from the movie Titanic
Bella and Edward from Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series
Baby and Johnny from the movie Dirty Dancing
Padmé and Anakin from Star Wars series (films/novels/comics)
How about you? Do you have any favorite couples?

Baby and Johnny are one of my all time favorites. I tried to show the movie to my daughter, but she just rolled her eyes and said it was too old-fashioned. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteWhat?! That movie is never too old fashioned!
DeleteSorry, had to jump in on this. My thirteen year old LOVED this movie. I agree with Dani. Dirty Dancing could never be old-fashioned!!
DeleteAww, that's too bad, T. Maybe try again later on? It's such a great movie!
DeleteOoooo these are some really great couples! I think my fav out of the bunch is Rose and Jack. That story is so great!
ReplyDeleteIt is! :)
DeleteAnne Montgomery and Gilbert Blythe-- Anne of Green Gables fame.
ReplyDeleteAhh... Anne of Green Gables! Excellent choice.
DeleteSome of my favorite couples are from old Hollywood, like Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., Greta Garbo and John Gilbert, and Rudy Valentino and Natacha Rambova. My tastes are very timewarped.
ReplyDeleteGarbo and Gilbert... I love looking at those black and whites of them! So neat.
Deletehaha...yes, we can still be friends, even if you are Team Edward. I actually LOVED Edward in the first book. First book, he was this sexy, bad-ass vampire.
ReplyDeleteBUT, as the series continued,I thought Stephanie Meyer completely changed everything I loved about his character. He became very old seeming. He never wanted to let Bella have any fun. And he didn't seem to trust her to ever take care of herself. I know she was always being hunted by vampires, but I thought he was over-protective to a fault.
I actually didn't catch any of this the first time I read through cause I was all caught up in the epic romance between he and Bella and I read the books super fast. But, when I went back and re-read out loud to my daughter, it was SO obvious I couldn't believe I didn't see it the first time. Very annoying. Read it with an eye to character consistency, instead of the romance of it, and I'll bet you'll see what I mean.
BUT--even if you don't and you love Edward forever, that's cool!! People talk all kinds of crap (including me sometimes) but the Twilight series is always a fun read.
Great choices here. I honestly could've gone on all night with this question. Lots of great couples in movies, TV, books...Awesome question this week!!
I've read the series a few times (Yes, it may seem crazy, but I have.) There's a lot to learn in them... what to do and more importantly what NOT to do. tehe
DeleteAnd though I do see what you're saying, I still find him attractive and love them as a couple. Probably always will. :D
I love Yvaine and Tristan! If I had to vote for just one, I'd have to go with Ash and Anjuli from The Far Pavilions. But there are SO many great couples out there.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Far Pavilions. I'll take a look. Thanks!
DeleteDefinitely Chuck and Blair from Gossip Girl. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I said Romeo and Juliet or...Jane Eyre and Rochester, Catherine and Heathcliffe. Your choices are great! I especially like Allie and Noah- that's a great couple.
ReplyDeleteHow about Harry and Sally?
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet valentine prompt! great couples!
ReplyDeleteI think one of my fave bits in Dirty Dancing is that adorable scene when they lip-sync to that song: "Oh, Sylvia!" "Yes, Mickey?" Adorbz.
ReplyDeleteI dig Bella and Edward too, though I prefer them as written in the books and not as portrayed in the flicks...You know who I liked, a LOT, in the flicks? Friggin' Charlie Swan - he was HAWT! :-)
Some Dark Romantic
Dirty Dancing is a good pick, one I did not think about.
ReplyDeleteI have also chosen a few of yours, Jackie. I think we have similar tastes!
Nora and Patch - good one!
ReplyDeleteAs for Edward and Bella, I think the allure for me was his obsession for her. I thought Bella was annoying in the book, but I did love them together. Great post.
Damon and Elana off Vampire Diaries
