This week's Express Yourself.....
What are a few inspirational quotes you'd like to pass to others?
Here are some favorites of mine I'd like to share...
I have spread my dreams beneath your feet. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
- W.B Yeats
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up. It know it must run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up you'd better be running.
- Christopher McDougall
Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can see only as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.
-E.L. Doctorow
It begins with a character, usually, and once he stands up on his feet and begins to move, all I can do is trot along behind him with a paper and pencil trying to keep up long enough to put down what he says and does.
- William Faulkner
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
- Wayne Grestky
You should never be ashamed of your struggle because you standing here is a sign of victory.
- Christopher Toler
Each of us requires a spur of insecurity to force us to do our best.
- Harold W. Dodds

Oh these are some really great quotes! I really like Faulkner's... I could picture it and its exactly how I feel when I write.
ReplyDeleteHis work is brilliant. :D
DeleteGreat quotes and inspirational. I love the gazelle and lion image. Although I'm more of a jogger in the morning. I might be lion bait. I'm going to write a few of these down and post visibly.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Julie! :)
DeleteThese are great quotes! I like Faulkner's a lot.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Me, too. ^_^
Delete"You should never be ashamed of your struggle because you standing here is a sign of victory." This one is beautiful. Thanks for sharing! ^_^
ReplyDeleteIt's for sure one of my faves. The first time I heard Lil C say it, it brought tears to my eyes.
Deletei love these---esp. the yeats one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Lynn! :)
DeleteI love the Faulkner quote! I've always written in a similar organic style, just getting to know characters and then dutifully writing down their stories, instead of exactly plotting everything out in advance.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great way to write! So helpful.
DeleteLove all of these, especially the Faulkner and the McDougall one. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading them, Nicole! :)
DeleteI've always loved that Gretzky quote. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a great one! :D
DeleteGood quotes are a yummy as chocolate... ok, maybe not quite. This is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteChocolate and quotes... two great things in life. ^_^
DeleteThe Faulkner quote is amazing because it perfectly describes what happens when we write. When I'm in the zone it's never like I'm "making something up." It's like I'm tapping into some universal force that's guiding my fingers. It's...humbling and fantastic and magical.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to lose sight of that magic in all the revisions and contests and rewrites and querying...so thanks for the reminder. :)
Happy Thanksgiving.
These are all great quotes. Thanks for sharing them.
